I am making the repairs myself. I have a 2008 ford focus. It has an intermittent no start issue when it's hot, after highway speeds for example. I installed a new starter, starter relay, ignition switch, and key cylinder housing. I have a new neutral safety switch, but haven't installed it yet. I noticed that focus have a starting problem.

You many even need a factory scan tool, though I doubt if for a Ford. Outside of security theft deterrent systems they allow the aftermarket professional scan tools to access their systems. So where do you go from here? With or without a scan tool, the grounds are a good place to start. G303 are the main ground for the FEM.
Same thing happened to me - start button would very often not start the car on the first few attemps. Sometimes it took forever. I brought car into Ford for this issue and a vibration issue. They ordered a new start button which they thought was faulty, but also installed a new TCM to try and fix the vibration.

Inertia switches used to cause frequent problems in Fords in the 80's, but I have not personally had a problem with any inertia switch. I'm sure most of the problems were misdiagnosis, or ways for unscrupulous shops to make money replacing an expensive part that most owner's couldn't find.

The 2010 Ford Focus has 11 problems reported for engine stalls/dies while driving. Average repair cost is $600 at 113,250 miles. Waited on the side of the road for about 1/2 hr still no start 1999 Ford Explorer. December 26, 2014. #1. I have a 99 Explorer (v6 SOHC) that's having intermittent starting problems. It will always crank but sometimes (i'd say 50/50 chance) not start. I think it may be the fuel pump since i'll turn the key and sometimes hear the pump prime and the car will fire up. Other times I won't hear the pump prime
Start at the battery connections, then where the cables are crimped / soldered to the cable connectors, and unfortunately the focus is notorious for its bad grounds. If none of these are bad check the loom in the tilt portion of the steering column for shorts / bare wires . Save.
Soooo, update on where we got to with my s max. Mechanic did a drop test on the battery (to check for voltage drop to ground) and was all functioning correctly. Ran some diagnostics and it finally settled on a faulty ignition relay (which would also explain the power steering low volts fault).

2011 Focus - intermittent starting problem. Turn the key, various lights come on OK, but the engine doesn't crank. Happens intermittently. Sometimes no problem, sometimes have to try 2-3 times, sometimes try dozens of times before it cranks. 2.0L. 4 CYL. 2WD. AUTOMATIC. 115,000 MILES. No diagnostic codes but it will show the message on the screen "starting system fault" or sometimes "no key detected". Lights on the dash sometimes flicker. If you try to start the car again right away it won't crank over the lights on the dash sometimes will come on and sometimes they don't!

A friend who worked at a Ford dealer said that letting the fuel get really low causes the fuel pump to overheat because the fuel cools the pump inside the gas tank. If you ever run out of fuel or let it get very low, you can damage the fuel pump. Have the fuel pressure tested and if it is low, then it is the fuel pump.

I have been in love with this truck until it recently started not starting periodically. Today is the 3rd time it has been to the dealer for this problem. The first time I had it is, the dealer replaced the PCM.
I bought a 2nd Hand 2009 Ford Focus 1.8 sport from a Ford Dealer and it had a rough hunting and sometimes it nearly stalled, well this was the Throttle body that needed replacing but I still have the issue that when its cold it will tick over normal but as I drive up the road for a mile or two and if I drop the clutch the revs are between 2000 - 2500 rpm but when I took it back to the Ford
